Ray Perone

Perkiomen Valley Vikings Football Staff

Ray grew up in Norristown, Pa and is a 1995 graduate of Kennedy-Kenrick HS where he received All-Catholic honors his senior season. He led the Philadelphia Catholic League in interceptions (7) as a senior and received the team’s defensive back of the year award as well as Outstanding Senior Athlete Award from his CYO Parish, St. Francis of Assisi. Ray was recruited to play both football and baseball in college and went on to play defensive back at Western Maryland College in Westminster, MD. Ray later graduated from West Chester University as a student. Post graduation, Ray worked local youth football camps including multiple stints at the annual Anthony Becht Football Camp in Drexel Hill, PA where he worked alongside former New York Jets first round draft pick, Anthony Becht along with multiple NFL and college players and various high school coaches throughout the region. Ray began his high school coaching career at Monsignor Bonner and Prendergast High School in Drexel Hill, PA where he coached varsity defensive backs and served as both Head Coach and Defensive Coordinator of the JV team until 2012. He then went on to coach Pop Warner football locally with the Lower Perk Longhorns through 2020 where he doubled his coaching responsibilities as Head Coach at Perkiomen Valley East Middle School in 2020. After a year coaching at PV East, Ray was elevated to the Perkiomen Valley High School staff where he continues to serve as the team’s defensive backs coach and assistant special teams coordinator. During Ray’s tenure as a HS football coach, he has never had a season with less than 2 defensive backs receiving annual All-League honors from his unit, with one of his former DB’s being named MVP of the Philadelphia Catholic League. Ray cherishes his relationships with his players and his greatest joy as a coach is witnessing players of all skill levels develop both on the field as players and off the field as student athletes and productive members of their community.
